Student Scholarship

STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP

The thrusts of the Philippine government include provision of access to education to the greater number of Filipinos. TUP as a state institution of higher learning, offers scholarship grants to deserving students with exemplary academic and athletics achievements. In addition to this, there are also students who were awarded scholarship or educational assistance through the auspices of their respective communities or localities, private companies, and non-government organizations.

In 2006, a total of 1,947 students were given scholarship grants in the four campuses of the University (see Figure 11). The most number of students who were awarded scholarship grants are in the Manila Campus with 1,006 or 51%. In the other campuses, the distribution is as follows: Cavite, 224 or 12%; Taguig, 254 or 13%; and Visayas, 463 or 24%.

Generally, the type of scholarship can be classified either as competitive or non-competitive scholarship. In 2006, under the competitive scholarships, a total of 1,131 students or 58% of the scholars have successfully passed the examinations given by their sponsoring agencies, which included the Department of Science and Technology, SM Foundation, Inc., and others (see Figure 12). For non-competitive scholarships, 816 or 42% were given financial support by their sponsoring agencies to pursue their studies in the University.
