TUP Officials Attend 1st Meeting on IP Hub and Spoke

Officials of the Technological University of the Philippines (TUP) were invited to attend the first meeting on IP Hub and Spoke, presided by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in coordination with the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL). The meeting hosted by the University of Sto. Tomas (UST) last November 11, 2016 was attended by a number of HEIs tapped as hosts of IP Hubs and Spoke in the country.

Atty. Andrew Michael Ong, WIPO Director for Asia-Pacific Affairs, the Presiding Officer of the meeting, discussed the critical needs and challenges faced by Spokes in terms of technology development, management and commercialization. In this circumstance, he said that the commitment coming from HEIs IP Spokes is needed for the sustenance of the IP Hub project. The meeting was a rationalization of the launching of the IP Hub in the Philippines with UST also as the host venue.

Representatives from HEIs present in the meeting were from UST, Adamson University, Bataan Peninsula State University, Bicol University, Capiz State University, Negros Oriental State University, Palawan State University, UP Diliman, UP Manila, UP Los Baños, University of San Carlos, TUP and the University of Southeastern Philippines.

Dr. Maribel G. Nonato, UST Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation, said that the establishment of an IP Hub and Spoke in UST will result in the expansion of the functions and responsibilities of the University for better delivery of its services.

TUP officials who attended the meeting were, Dr. Adora S. Pili, TUP President, Engr. Felipe Ronald M. Argamosa, Vice President for Research and Extension and Mr. Jerry G. Ligaya, ITSO Manager.
