Senator Bam Aquino visits the TUP

On the occasion of the Annual Presentation of Project Research in Electromechanical, Civil, Information and Telecommunications Engineering or APPRECIATE,  Senator Paolo Benigno "Bam" Aquino IV, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Science and Technology, paid a visit to the TUP to deliver a message to the students and the faculty of the College of Engineering.  His message centered on the need to educate the Filipino youth to give them a better future.  As one of the primary sponsors of the Universal Access to Higher Education Act or Republic Act No. 10931, Sen Bam emphasized the giving of opportunities to the students to finish their degrees to become productive members of society.

The APPRECIATE showcased the ingenuity and inventiveness of the Grayhawks.  The students exhibited such inventions as building materials using reinforced bamboo fiber and chicken feather of which materials the Philippines is abundant, materials to clean up oil spills, a machine to measure aberrations in eyesight using a CCD camera, mechanized two-row corn seed planter, a juice maker and seed extractor, and even a machine with alarm to wake up sleepy drivers.  The entire compilation of abstracts for the inventions fills up an entire small book!

Later, after the program, Senator Bam and the rest of the officials went down to visit the exhibits.

Congratulations to Dean Ben Fortaleza, the faculty of the College of Engineering, and the students for a job well done.  Reach for the stars!
