Research and Development Agenda (2006-2010)
Research and development is one of the four-fold functions of the Technological University of the Philippines as a state University of higher learning. In cognizance of the fact that the function is vital in the attainment of the University’s goals and objectives, the administration continuously spearheads the evolution of policies, guidelines, strategies, systems, etc. that shall institutionalize the implementation of research and development programs.
Initially, in 1989 the institutional R&D infrastructure was formally established. A few years later in 1995 a system of re-engineering was undertaken in order to make the R&D sector of the TUP more responsive to the challenges and opportunities offered by the increased national interest in research and development.
The academic and R&D sectors of the University formulated the medium-term research and development plan from which the annual planning framework can be drawn. The bases of the program/project prioritization are the identified national thrusts included in the National Science and Technology Plan (2002-2010), SUC Leveling and Normative Funding requirements, the directions set by the National Administration in the Medium-Term Philippine Development Plan, and the CHED Guidelines for the Selection of SUC Proposals under “Umbrella Technology Commercialization Program”.
