Year Activity
1901 Establishment of Philippine School of Arts and Trade (PSAT)
1914 Start of library service
July 1959 Conversion into Philippine College of Arts and Trade (PCAT)
November 1960 Curriculum Library was transferred to the Department of Military Science and Tactics
1966 Books were donated by the University of Tennessee through Dean Jose Vergara
May 1971 Miss Ester Gutierrez was designated Officer-in-Charge of the Curriculum Library
1972 Dr. Jose Vergara changed the name of the Library to College when he became the university president
1978 Conversion of college library into university library when it became Technological University of the Philippines (TUP)
1978 Establishment of Taguig - Cavite and TUP-Visayas
1979 Establishment of TUP- Cavite
June 1988 Library was transferred to the Teacher Education Building under Dr. Frederick So. Pada
May 1989 Creation of the mini library

November 1992

Shifting from Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) to Library of Congress Classification (LCC) System
  • Open shelf system was operational. • Creation of the Main Library merging the book collection of Architecture, Fine Arts and Graduate School
  • Became a centralized library with an area of 548.563 sq. meters and with a seating capacity of 220.
1993 Installation of air-conditioning units and blowers at the Main Library
September 1996 Acquisition of a strong collection of books in Technology, Computer Science, Management, Arts, Pure Science
2001 Office Order No. 3385, s. 2001 was issued in compliance with COA’s rules and regulations regarding collection of all library fees and collections paid to the Cashier’s Office effective First Semester, SY 2001-2002

  • Implementation of Internet Access in the library
  • Director Romulo Mendoza donated Vocational Education books
June 2003 Designation of Dr. Wilhelmina Gatmaitan-Borjal as Director of Library and Learning Resources
June 2002 Initial adoption scheme of a library automation system in the Main Library and Learning Resources
August 2002 Received donation of books from the Asia Book Foundation and Asian Development Bank
January 2003 Execution of MOA with the Kumoh National Institute of Technology, Korea

  • Start of an Integrated Library Computerization System
  • AIM-WB-DRC-TUP MOA with the AIM-WB Knowledge for Development Center (KDC) for public access to development-related publications of World Bank
  • Adoption of Electronic Procurement System(EPS) for common-use supplies, materials and equipment
January 2003 Issuance of TUP Order No. 08, s.2003 and approval to charge Php50.00 per visit to outside researchers and alumni no longer connected or enrolled in the university
January 2004 January 2004 – Training of FOLLETT System on Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) for students and faculty by college and the IRTC personnel.
June 2004 – Completion of COE FOLLETT Computerization of books and journals
May 2006 The First General Assembly of Librarians of the four (4) campus libraries joined the seminar and discussed the integrated library system, program, service, personnel and book collection development for the very first time.
May 2007 TUP Library Handbook of Operations was finalized through the able leadership of Dr. Borjal and submitted for approval by the Academic Council
June 2007 Miss Olga M. Ong was designated as OIC Director of the University Library
January 2008 Revision of the Library Manual of Operations for approval to the Board of Regents.
