Recent Notable Achievements
- TUP is the only Level IV Institution in the National Capital Region in the latest
Commission on Higher Education (CHED) evaluation of the state universities and colleges
- For the period, 19 programs of the University were accredited, and 35 new instructional materials were developed
- The University in collaboration with the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA)
pioneered the offering of the ladderized program Railway Engineering Technology
(RET) leading to Bachelor of Technology degree
- The University likewise offered the Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurial Management
- The TUP ETEEAP was continuously implemented for Filipino practioners, both
inside and outside the country. Fifty-five (55) students out of the 105 enrolled
were graduated
- The result of the Board Examination almost always showed an institutional average
higher than the national passing average. TUP through its COE and Visayas Campus,
was among the three (3) top performing institutions in the field of ME and ECE
(for institutions with 50-99 examinees), with students among the top ten successful
examinees
- The TUP Officials were invited in Malacanang during the Biofuels Law and Climate Change Law signing by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo as TUP was the partner agency
- The research program of the University entitled “Development and Utilization
of Biofuel Feedstocks” was selected as one of the finalists in the CHED’s
Best Higher Education Research Program for 2006 in the NCR;
- The student research entitled “Electric Meter using Prepaid Card”
was awarded Second Plaze and Special Award in the DOST’s National Inventors’
Week held last November, 2006;
- The University through its IRTC in cooperation with Nihon University, Japan
successfully organized the 4th Pacific-Asia Conference on Mechanical Engineering,
August 2007
- The faculty and staff of the IRTC continuously participate in the Philippine
Clean Cities Program, acting as speakers/resource persons in the promotion of
the use of renewable and environment friendly fuels particularly in Makati,
Baguio, Marikina, and Davao
- TUP through its IRTC continuously participates in the National Academy of Science
and Technology (NAST) forum on alternative fuels, particularly Jatropha; Collaborates
with the Department of Energy (DOE) in the preparation of the National Biofuels
Program 2007-2012
- TUP was one of the three agencies in the Philippines that qualified for technology
exposition in China
- Various technology prototypes developed by the faculty and students were featured
in the ABS-CBN’s Magandang Umaga Pilipinas and the GMA-QTV’s Sa
Pulso in July and August of 2006, respectively
- The Filipino Inventor’s Multi-Purpose Cooperative expressed their intention
to partner with the University in the commercialization of some matured prototypes
and in the production of their own designs
- TUP sustains the cooperation with Nihon University, Kumoh University, Yantai
Vocational College, Hzing Hua Tourism School, Zhenghua Institute of Learning
and Educational Linkages, Tshghua Unigroup Education and Training Center, Chinese
Language Council International, Beijing Cultural Office, Department of Science
and Technology, Department of Energy, Philippine National Oil Company, Petron
Corporation, Toyota Philippines, Light Rail Transit Authority, De La Salle University,
Mapua Institute of Technology, Technological Institute of the Philippines, Philippine
Society for Ventilating, Airconditioning and Refrigerating Engineers, Motolite
Institute of the RAMCAR Group, Philippine Printing Technical Foundation and
the more than three-hundred agencies/corporations in the industry and the academe
Other Significant Recognitions
- The Engineering Technology - University Linkage Program of the College of Industrial
Technology (CIT) of TUP was recognized as an Exemplary Model for Training in
Industrial Technology by the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) through
its working unit, the Human Resource Development in Industrial Technology (HURDIT)
at Toronto, Canada in 1995.
- The University was registered as Center of Excellence in the ASEAN Ministers
Economic and Industrial Cooperation Committee (AMEICC) working group on Human
Resource Development by the Department of Trade and Industry Center for Industrial
Competitiveness-National Industrial Manpower Training Center. This recognition
placed the University in the same league as top polytechnics from Brunei Darussalam,
Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam
in 1999.
- In 1999, TUP was awarded the recognition as Center of Development by the Commission
on Higher Education (CHED). In particular, the University received the recognition
in the field of Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering.
Under CHED Implementing Guidelines, the recognition has two levels. Level 1
is given to a Higher Education Institution (HEI) with good undergraduate programs,
extension capability and potential for research. Level 2 is given to an HEI
with adequate undergraduate programs, extension capability and potential for
research. A Level 1 Center of Development received a grant of P1,000,000.00
per school year for a duration of 3 school years while a Level 2 received P500,000.00
per school year for the same duration.
- In June 2002, the Colombo Plan Staff College (CPSC) for Technician Education
named TUP as a “Center of Excellence” for its contributions in the
graduate, technological, technical, industrial, and vocational education.
