TUP GRIEVES FOR A BIG LOSS

Dr. Julian Marquez, Jr.The TUP Community mourns the death of the very dynamic, hard-working and highly principled Vice-President for Planning, Development and Information Systems.

Dr. Julian O. Marquez Jr., who assumed the position of VP for Planning, Development, and Information System on September 1, 2006, was redesignated to the same position as VPPDIS by Dr. Olympio V. Caparas, TUP President, effective October 22, 2009 pursuant to TUP Order No. 060 s.2009.

Dr. Marquez had a solid background in the field of strategic planning. He completed a Correspondence Course in Educated Planning and Management in 1983 which was offered by DECS and earned a Diploma in Advanced Military Science and Tactics (Strategies). He was an Inactive Military Officer in the AFP.

Before joining the TUP family, Dr. Marquez served as an Educational Researcher and Planning Analyst in the Office of the Planning Service (OPS), DECS, and Central Office from 1983-1989. He was designated as Desk Regional Planning Officer for NCR and Region IV and was a member of the DECS National Building Committee.

He was transferred to TUP in 1989 and was designated as Head of the Technology Transfer Unit, University Extension Service, and Office of the Vice President for Research and Extension (OVPRE) for 5 years; core faculty in the Graduate School as of year 1998 (for Institutional, Local and International teaching assignments) and College of Liberal Arts (CLA) faculty. He was designated as Director for Planning in June 2006; and after three (3) months, as Vice President for Planning, Development and Information System.

Aside from his doctorate degree in educational management, he was working on his dissertation leading to a doctorate degree in Public Administration. He was also a Senior Law Student.

He passed the Board Examination for Teachers in 1979, and was granted the PRC license on December 11, 1987 and passed one of the toughest four-stage Career Executive Service Examination. He took his oath as a Career Executive Service Eligible on August 5, 2008 and the only TUP official today with a third (3rd) level eligibility which qualified him as future Director, Assistant Secretary and Undersecretary in the Career Executive Service.

A NECROLOGICAL SERVICES AND EUCHARISTIC CELEBRATION for our beloved late DR. JULIAN O. MARQUEZ JR. will be held on May 21, 2010 at 6:00 PM at the Technological University of the Philippines, Ayala Blvd., Ermita, Manila.
