ME Quizzers Captures Gold

Indeed this school year is one of the most successful performances for TUP-Manila Mechanical Engineering (ME) Quiz Team.

After winning the title in the Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers (PSME) 2008 Inter-University Quiz Contest and a 1st runner up finish in the 6th ME Inter-University Quiz Show, the Quiz Team finally ended up their campaign with a high note as they bagged the top spot in the Mechanical Engineering Students National Quiz Contest held at the Conference Hall of the Integrated Research and Training Center, Technological University of the Philipines-Manila, November 6, 2008.

The delegates from the University of Cebu settled for 2nd place after taking the lead in the 1st round up to the 11th question in the final round. However, the last question changed the game when they lost it to TUP-Manila who only got the correct answer and managed to clinch the lead, while Batangas State University ranked 3rd place.

The ME Quizzers were composed of Radino Estoria (5A), Rolly Paulan (5A), Jaylon Forte (5A), Isadora Escol (5A) and Glenn Ivan Pasia (4A). They were trained under the supervision of Engr. Antiro M. Ca-ay and Engr. Benedicto Fortaleza.

The ME Students National Quiz Contest was part of the 56th PSME National Annual Convention, November 4-7, 2008 spearheaded by the Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers in cooperation with Linx Engineering International.

The quiz show was divided into two rounds-elimination and final. The coverage of the questions included three subjects, namely: General Engineering and Mathematical Services, Machine Design and Industrial and Power Plant Engineering.

The event had a total of 16 participating schools, namely: Andres Bonifacio College, Bataan Peninsula State University, Batangas State University (BatSU), Bulacan State University, University of Cebu, Ramon Magsaysay Technological University, Nueva Vizcaya State University, New Era University, Lyceum of the Philippines University-Manila, Pangasinan State University, Saint Louis University, Mindanao Polytechnic State College, Technological Institute of the Philippines-Manila, TUP-Manila, Polytechnic University of the Philippines-Manila and PUP-Taguig.

TUP-Manila quizzers received PhP 10,000 cash prize, gold medals and the Perpetual Trophy while University of Cebu and BatSU got PhP 7,000 and PhP 5,000 cash prize, respectively, plus medals and trophies.
